City Veiled in Midnight Mist

This atmospheric picture takes a snapshot of a city's skyline taken over by fog, whereby several bright lights pierce through the buildings. The great contrast of urban illumination against soft, ghostly fog creates an extremely beautiful effect that invites viewers to behold the city as both vibrant and mysterious.
I drew my inspiration from foggy nights in towns and tried to express the feeling of mystery and transience, those seconds when familiar skyscrapers come across as otherworldly. A camera manages to capture the soft glow of city lights under the mist by using long exposures, while balancing sharp architectural lines with the softness of fog remains key during the shooting process. Some minor post-processing was done in order to enhance the contrast and bring out the subtle light reflections, keeping the hues of the city night all natural. This invites the viewer to ponder over the hidden layers within this cityscape and the beauty that eludes them.
